LOVE CROFTON | 004

This past week we got to spend 3 days serving the community of Crofton, from helping out in people's yard, to cleaning windows inside we got to spend time doing various service projects in the town that we are spending the year living in. During each of the jobs I did I took the time to ask whoever we were working with about why they chose Crofton to live I as a town, I was really intrigued by the different answers that came from each person or couple, everyone had their own reasons for choosing the town, some were there because it was cheap, others because they had grown up and spent their lives in the same area. It was also really interesting to hear about their lives and to be able to listen to their stories. One day we met a world-famous model boat maker, the next an Australian who used to work for the ministry of health now retired in Crofton. Each person we got to work with had their own unique and exciting story

There was a couple that a few of us were cleaning their gutters for them, after we had finished they invited us inside to chat and have some hot drinks, we talked to them about Crofton, and their lives and interests, the husband ended up telling us that he was 88 and this was the first year he didn’t clean the gutters on his own. For a lot of these people, we are serving them in ways that they physically can't do anymore,  for a group of young adults like us it's not a very hard task, but for someone like him it means so much. Two of the jobs I was a part of would have been one person spending weeks if not months on the amount of work we accomplished in 3 - 7 hours during the day.

I really enjoyed being able to see Crofton in a different way, instead of just going into town to get a coffee, and sit down and do some home work for a while I got to see it from the community's homes, to be able to serve the community and love on the people who make up the town that realistically we live in. I mentioned to a couple of the people I had talked to that realistically the only times we are in Crofton are either leaving or returning from out trips or going in for a coffee run, we don’t get to experience what the town fully has to offer, or the people that call it home.

Its been really cool to hear all these different people's stories.

Il see you in the new year,
Take care.
