APPLICATION | 002

Intro to Spiritual Theology taught a lot about slowing down and living in the moment,
we learnt a lot about being present, with our self's, with our friends and with each other.
Applying this to a Friday youth night would just be being intentional with our students,
spending time to talk to them and ask them about their week, slowing down and just talking
with them and getting to know them better. We also talked about different spiritual
disciplines and how some of them are best used, things like spending time to connect in
fellowship with our church community, or acts of service around camp, just different ways of
showing our love for one another in our daily lives. Applying this to my current ministry at
youth will help me create deeper and better connections with the youth, or with campers
during camp.

Youth and Camp ministry has been my favourite class so far, being (in my opinion) the most practical class we have had so far, I found it pretty simple to find different ways were we could put what we learnt into action. One of the big things for me, that Sid talked about was first impressions. He used the Ritz Carlton as an amazing example of a great first impression, rolling up to the hotel where they already know your name, where you've come from and have set up your room just for you  sets a very good first impression for guests. I've talked to both Austin (my youth pastor in Duncan) and Josh (my youth pastor back home in Victoria) about finding new ways to be both intentional with meeting and inviting new students, as well as creating an environment where they will feel welcomed. Applying this to youth can help us really be intentional with the new youth that we have the opportunity to reach.

Intro to Christian Theology was a big one, it was a class packed full of big topics and heavy theological truths. But it gave me a good insight to deeper meaning and information on topics I already knew. Having all this new found knowledge on common questions and beliefs of the Christian faith, in both youth and camp ministry I have the ability to answer questions on my faith and other questions that kids and youth may ask with a better understanding on both my thoughts on it, and what is theologically correct.

I'll see ya soon, take care
